quick hello

I've been in California for the past five days. I'm staying at my parents' empty house where every non-essential utility/service has been turned off pending their return from Taiwan in a few years. This means no cable, no high-speed computer access. I don't think my parents ever got beyond dial-up anyways, though. So here I am on a dial-up connection, getting my lj and e-mail fix.
My sister's wedding on Saturday was fabulous. My brother, Rob, and I ended up setting things up for the ceremony and helping direct guests to the hidden park overlooking the beach where the ceremony was held. Since then, Rob and I have just been lounging around in the City and the 'burbs. Rob's been a big ol' sleepy head. (He's still in bed as I type!)
We leave back for North Carolina early early tomorrow morning. I miss long vacations. This is the longest I've been away from NC for a single stretch in many many months.
I'm dreading getting back to a whole bunch of work. I'm behind in leson planning, dissertation writing, and job materials writing. I thought I'd do some work while here. But silly me, of course, I haven't touched a book or my word processing program since I got here (aside from browsing them in various Bay Area stores and purchasing a few new ones at City Lights). I plan on making use of the twelve-hour travel time tomorrow to do some work.
