i pledge allegiance!
Dec. 8th, 2005 03:12 pmOMG. I'm totally a US citizen now! LOL. I thought I was one since the mid-1980s when my parents naturalized (along with me as a minor). I've been filling out all these various forms -- for jobs, schools, fellowships, and so on -- indicating that I am a US citizen. But according to the Social Security Administration, I wasn't a US citizen up until today! And this, despite having a US passport, holding multiple full-time jobs without a work-visa for immigrants, and so on. Hah!
So yeah, I was at the Social Security office for two hours today. That was fun. I was there to verify my citizenship status for financial aid so that I can take out more student loans. That's the other thing -- I've done the whole student loan, financial aid form, a few times before in my graduate career -- and even though I proved to the school with my US passport that I am a citizen, I apparently was LYING.
It was all so anti-climactic, though. Like, where's my Flower Drum Song/Madame Liang/Juanita Hall citizenship class graduation moment?
