grrr, a rant

So I'm sitting here in my freezing cold office trying to work on my papers. I'm here so that my students can stop by to pick up their final portfolios. And I have to deal with all my worst students coming in to whine about their grades, about how they didn't feel like I should've taken off points for little things and how I should round their grades up because they're trying to get into business school. God damn it! I am so fed up. My students have it so easy in my class, and they're STILL complaining about their grades. They keep saying, but not saying directly, that I'm grading unfairly. Why am I supposed to give you an A because you think you are a better writer than most people in the class? If you write B papers and never bother to come talk to me about what you can do to improve (yet you claim you never understand what I'm "asking for"), what makes you surprised that you got a B at the end of the semester? (Actually, it was even a B+.)

Look, out of 38 students, I gave out 10 A's, 16 A-'s, 2 B+'s, 7 B's, 0 B-'s, 2 C+'s, and 1 C. My GOD. One of my students just came in to complain about her A-. An A-! And she wanted to know why she didn't get an A. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
