pedestrian
Jun. 5th, 2002 08:41 amI miss walking a lot, I realized this morning. I miss experiencing the surroundings, even if it is just the busy road, at the pace of foot traffic. Durham is incredibly non-pedestrian friendly. Many roads lack sidewalks, and those that do only have them on one side of the street, not consistently on the whole stretch (some blocks are sidewalk-less), and don't have very safe street crossing intersections.
I walked back from the body shop this morning after dropping off my car. It's only a twenty minute walk from my apartment to the block of shops for the college crowd. I've never walked it before, though, because the walk involves crossing busy streets that don't have crosswalks. During high traffic times, it could get hairy. Also, the weather here doesn't permit much ambling when I have time (summer). At eight am today, I think it was already approaching eighty degrees Fahrenheit with a fair amount of humidity.
