This boutique eyeglasses shop in Durham has ruined me for cheap glasses. Before my last couple of pairs of glasses from that shop, I used to get fairly inexpensive glasses at LensCrafters or other such mass outfitters. But today, as I looked into getting a new pair of glasses and updating my lens prescriptions, I couldn't bear to take myself over to the Vision World at the mall. Instead, I'm going to fork over an arm and a leg so that I can pick out something from Invision Optical. Sigh. Buying things with credit is going to be the death of me.
Update: 6:36 pm CDT Ummm. Wow. That cost twice as much as I thought it would. And I didn't think it was going to be cheap.... But I think the glasses will look A+++++.

disturbed dog
Oct. 7th, 2008 12:07 amWe three fell asleep on the couch this evening during Heroes. A little later, I woke up when Giles started growling. Mr. Frog was across the room, getting ready for work. Sometimes Giles wakes up a bit grumpy and/or startled. :P I freaked out for a split second, thinking that someone had broken in, until I realized it was just Mr. Frog.
Misters Frog and Giles just came to visit me. I'm on campus all day today (8 am until 9 pm). Mr. Frog called up and told me to look out the window. We talked on the phone and waved to each other. I called out to Mr. Giles and he got all whiny and excited but couldn't figure out where I was. Mr. Frog picked him up and tried to point me out on the third floor but it didn't work. :D
food logging
Sep. 9th, 2008 07:23 amI eat horribly. I eat take out once or twice a day sometimes. I eat too many sweets! I'm having students jot down a log of what they eat for a few days as we go into reading Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. I'm using the food log as a way for students to think about their eating habits, not so much for dieting or nutritional reasons but for understanding the idea of how much food travels. (Kingsolver's book tracks how her family eats locally for a year.)
( What I've eaten the last few days. )

I am slightly tipsy after imbibing half a bottle of merlot with a friend. I stopped to get some frappuccinos for Mr. Frog and me on the way home. I survived the first day of the semester. We'll see what the attrition rate is to Friday. I must revise like mad tonight (what's left of it) and tomorrow. Oh, the joys of academia.
