a bite! a bite!

I'm so excited! I got my first positive response from a school. I got this e-mail today asking for a writing sample. This means my cover letter doesn't totally suck as much as I think it does. I hope. Anyways, the weird thing is that the e-mail had visible Cc: addresses so it looks like there are eight people they're asking for more materials from.... I wonder if this means they're also going to interview me at the end of December, too, since I think schools tend to interview about 10 candidates at the MLA convention.... Or maybe they're asking for writing samples from more people and just sent multiple e-mails. Who knows. Whee! I got the e-mail this morning upon waking up. It was good way to start my day.

Hey, congrats! Have you started google-stalking your competitors? And a cover letter is a writing sample, isn't it? I think it is.

hmmm, and yes

I hadn't thought to google-stalk yet.... But maybe I should? Start sending anonymous tips about the moral failings of my competitors? One of them actually has a Taiwanese e-mail address...

A cover letter is certainly a writing sample. A piece of writing I've spent more time working on per page than any other. But the crazy selection committee wants another 30 pages from me! How much more can I give???

Argh, one of my competitors (who's probably a better catch than me, because all schools luuurrrve Supreme Court clerks) is a former coworker and friend of mine! Grr! Another competitor (also a Supreme Court clerk, damn them) is also on my "friendly acquaintance" side, although I heard from a closer friend of mine that she was annoying in law school so maybe I should muster up the nerve to actually hate her.
