arrr

This exhaustion and head congestion has lingered too long. I went to the clinic today and got me some antibiotics to kick the ass of whatever bacterial infection I seem to have. The doctor said it definitely doesn't look like strep throat. She said it might be a mild case of mono though I don't have the swollen lymph nodes to really suggest that diagnosis. If these antibiotics don't do the job, I'll have to get some bloodwork done to see if I have something nasty.

Sigh.

And is it me, or does the doctor ALWAYS ask if you've had an HIV test if you let her know that you have sex with men?

My friend Heather's lesbian French teacher once got yelled at Planned Parenthood for answering negative to the question "Do you use condoms?" Halfway through the subsequent condescending lecture on the benefits of birth control, she lost it and shouted "I use lesbian birth control!!"

ha ha ha!

OMG. Classic line. I must use that myself. Yes, I use lesbian birth control.

Yes, it's a standard (and not unexpected, or unprofessional) question. It's a legitimate concern, and I'm actually glad they do ask, if only to get some of the fools who come in to think about testing. This is why I have a gay doctor, though, so they know that yes, I have those tests every 6 months, and don't ask me about them. :-p

hmmm

I hadn't thought of it that way. It is one way to encourage HIV testing. And I would say that the doctor didn't ask it in an insinuating way. But it is also odd that she would bring it up in the context of a sore throat. She did say that someone with mono symptoms (which I don't have) who tests negative for mono through blood tests is someone who is then tested for HIV.

Cause the throat could be symptomtic of a chlamydia or gonorrhea infection, or something else. And while they've got you there, why not check out the possibilities?

Mono was okay, but draining. I napped a lot.

Mmmm. STD of the throat. I guess I do have some mono symptoms, like the extreme exhaustion. (Every few days I've been napping a lot.) Sickness is so much fun. Ha.
