i'm awake!
Feb. 16th, 2006 02:21 amArgh. My brain won't shut off with all the things I should be working on these days. So I figure after an hour of lying awake in bed, I might as well do some of the less mind-intensive stuff like sending off e-mails, doing dishes, organizing files, and so on. One day, when I am a grown up, I will have all this stuff more under control.
One of the annoying things that's popped up is about my current apartment. Our rent hasn't really included much of anything in terms of utilities. Since we've moved here, we've had to pay separately for gas (cooking/heating), electricity, and water/sewage. Of course, we've also had to pay separately for phone, cable, and internet access. But at least we had trash and a washer/dryer included in our monthly rent -- the former as a matter of general practice for the original apartment complex owners, the latter as part of our signing deal. A couple months ago, the new complex owners informed us that we will now be charged $10 a month for trash collection. And this evening, they notified us that if we want to keep the washer/dryer, we would have to start paying $45 a month. Argh. This, in addition to the fact that rent is jumping at least $50 a month, and that's if we sign a 13 month renewal lease, even though the livability factor has gone down since we moved in (constant landscaping work outside, mud everywhere, flooding in the apartment, etc.).
The apartment people also do this weird thing where they leave notices on our door at like 11 pm . Giles always barks and runs to the door whenever the messenger of doom is making his/her rounds.
