home at last
Dec. 30th, 2005 11:12 pmUgh. 11 pm. Finally home from DC. Left the city around 3:15 to head to the airport. Got there by 4. Then discovered that my 5:15 flight was cancelled. Booked on the later 7:15 flight. This flight then kept getting delayed in fifteen minute increments. Until 9 pm. When we finally boarded. And took off around 9:30.
There's so much more. People screaming at the gate agents. Other flights getting cancelled at the gate. Disembodied voices over the PA systems castigating passengers for going to wrong place. Multiply repeated "final call for boarding" announcements. Long lines of frustrated passengers everywhere. But at this point I am just too drained to write about it coherently.
The worst part was that I rushed off at 3 to the airport when there were two or three people I had finally caught up with at the MLA convention and could've spent a nice two or three hours chatting over food and drinks. Instead I sat at the airport. Without any books. Because I was so good about not buying any this week! Not even the highly discounted last-day-of-conference exhibit books!
