I'm increasingly pissed off at one of my dissertation committee members. Today, he sent me (and my advisors) an e-mail saying that he would not be able to write me a letter of recommendation for a postdoc application due TUESDAY because he doesn't feel he has seen enough of my dissertation. I'm all for his honesty but I also don't know why he agreed to write the letter earlier if this was the case. Now I'm stuck in a bind -- and basically won't be able to make the application deadline -- because he has declined to write the letter at such a late date. Grrr. This is the same faculty member who threatened to leave my committee last semester because I hadn't shown him any chapters yet. This is the same faculty member who couldn't wait five minutes when I was running late to a meeting with him and never responded to my e-mails after.

The dogs are crazy. Giles is so possessive over toys and food! He wasn't last year when we had a second doggy in our home. I think he's a bit intimidated and overwhelmed by Dora. Ah well. We trekked to the dog park this afternoon and Giles was quite the un-gentlemen. I had to leash him a few times for tormenting other dogs too much.
It is kind of funny to see Giles be possessive over me, though. He doesn't like me to pet him or to be too near him, but if I am giving Dora some love, he comes running over like I have totally betrayed him.
It's a lazy night of reading and some tv. Also working on fellowship application essays. Ugh. I guess these things never really end. Even professors write lots and lots of application essays for grants and other funding. I just hate the mode of writing that is, "I will do such and such," rather than actual academic writing.
