I went on a cleaning frenzy last night. I've been getting a lot of packages in the mail lately -- ordered books, an electronic piano from my sister, and so on -- and have accumulated a lot of cardboard boxes. I didn't get all of them collapsed and taken out to the overflowing recycling dumpster, but I got some of them out. I also cleared off enough of the kitchen table to see half of it (it's a big table). I still need to do a lot of work filing away papers or getting rid of them. And I need to figure out how to fit my books somewhere on the full bookshelves. Maybe it's time to weed through books and pass them on to worthy readers (they're just sitting around at my place). I also cleaned up the bathroom a bit. It's seemingly more mildewy these days, needing cleaning more frequently. I would not be surprised if the mold and mildew levels in my apartment have skyrocketed since the flooding. Boo. We left the old apartment in large part because it was such a moldy place.

Now I'm photocopying board packets at work. These are what the editorial advisory board looks at when they decide whether or not to publish a book. They include all the readers' reports, affiliation information for all the readers, authors, and editors, and the introduction to the book. I'm keeping the poor photocopier quite busy this morning. How ever did people do things before photocopiers, though?

hmmm

Holy crap my work is crawling with the gays. I was at the photocopier making a copy of a manuscript on anthropology and queer studies when this guy walks by and asks me what I thought of the movie Friday night. He was referring to Hellbent, the gay slasher flick I went to see at the North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. (The movie was fun, by the way, though not great. It lacked a crucial aspect of slasher films which is speculation on why the killer kills, who the killer is, and why he selects those particular victims to stalk.)

I also caught Saving Face, the Chinese American lesbians movie. It was also fun but not great. The politics of it are not the most provocative, but it had lots of wonderful little moments that made me laugh. Well-written script, I guess. The chemistry between the women lovers wasn't great, but it was still a cute romance. Oh, and as I was waiting at the concession stand for my friend, Robyn walked by and said, "How did I know you would be here?" Heh. I guess I'm kinda predictable.

Oh, and I'm drawing up a rejection letter for this proposal "What Asians Need to Know About America, From A to Z." Sounds like a winner. Wonder why it got rejected. (Oooo. He has blurbs from Asians saying how helpful this book project is.)
