Hurray for satisfying classroom experiences. I was a guest discussant in my friend's Gender and Sports class this morning. We talked about Yao Ming vs. Shaq and how the pairing offers an incredibly dense site for examining the articulations of racial and gender meaning to cultural belonging, capital, and American exceptionalism. Her students were so awesome about talking to each other rather than directing all their comments at us as the teachers.
