ulp

Trying to get papers graded before today's 1:15 class. It's just not going to happen, but rather than give up entirely, I'm going to plug away and get at least some of them graded. (I usually give up and then when the next class session rolls around, I'm in the identical position of having no papers graded.)

Yesterday, I realized that I will be out of town again next Wed.-Sun. for my last conference of the "season." (April 19-23) It's at George Mason University in Washington, DC. Drop me a comment if you'll be in the DC area! Realizing that the conference is NEXT WEEK rather than in two weeks freaked me out because it means I'll have to start working on the paper NOW rather than next week as I had thought I would do.

scary scowl

Apparently I have a scary scowl. People seem to apologize profusely to me when I scowl, even if I'm not scowling intentionally or because I'm frustrated at all. I'm hanging out at a coffee place this afternoon after teaching and before picking up DOG from day care. And I've purchased food stuffs twice now. Both times, I had to wait quite a bit of time because the one person working here was attending to other people in a very unhurried manner. I wasn't particularly happy either time, but I wasn't particularly upset, either. Instead, I just settled down at the table in front of the counter to flip through a magazine (the first time) and surf the web more on my laptop (the second time). I think I must've been scowling, though, because the barista guy was all, "I'm sorry you had to wait so long both times....," when he finally got to me the second time. He said it in a way that was like he was afraid I was going to rain down pain and suffering on him, too. He wasn't sorry enough to give me a free coffee, though. :/

psycho analysis

I'm actually interested in new psychoanalysis work in literary studies and ethnic studies. But is it just me, or are all the people doing this kind of work like evangelical Christians in their insistence that their way is the right way and that everyone persecutes them for their oddly heretical-yet-the-only-truthful views?

eep

I tried listening to one of the WTC 911 call clips, the ones where you can hear the callers' voices in addition to the 911 dispatcher's. And omg I couldn't even get halfway through the clip. It's terrifying.

eep 2

I'm scared! Rob has set up some sort of voice chat thing through World of Warcraft, and there's this computer voice saying all this stuff, and then some man's voice saying stuff. He's reached a whole new level of WoW, one I can't even imagine!
